California State Strong

State Crunch Time Call-in Week: May 20-24

The last two weeks of May are an exciting time in the California legislature — hundreds of bills will face a floor vote before the crossover deadline on May 31!

This means ALL our legislators will be voting on critical policies that will affect the lives of all Californians. They need to hear from us. We’re planning to flood their offices with calls the week of May 20th to let them know how we want them to vote on the Indivisible CA statewide priorities!

If we coordinate our calls on the same day, we are more likely to have a bigger impact so we’re planning to call about a different bill each day. We have everything you need in this toolkit including a call script! Please use our patch through number so we can track how many calls we make!

Note: There is no need to call the cosponsors listed as they already support!
Our State Legislators are Senator Mike McGuire and Assemblymember Jim Wood.  Using this number 760-891-2254 will track the number of calls made.

Millions of Americans have personal stories about how the current healthcare system in America is negatively impacting them today. Presidential Tax Transparency

SB 27, introduced by Mike McGuire, passed the CA State Senate on 5/2/2019 and is awaiting consideration in the Assembly where it will first be heard in the Assembly Rules Committee.  The bill would enact the Presidential Tax Transparency and Accountability Act, which would require a candidate for President, in order to have the candidate’s name placed upon a primary election ballot, to file the candidate’s income tax returns for the 5 most recent taxable years with the Secretary of State, as specified.

California Health Care Bills

The following two bills were highlighted at our April meeting.  They would provide full-scope Medi-Cal to income-eligible adults by removing immigration status as an eligibility exclusion.
SB 29              04/22/19 Place on Senate Appropriations suspense file.
AB 4               05/01/19 Referred to Appropriations suspense file.

Background
Undocumented Californians are facing a health care crisis. Over the last two years, the federal government has carried out harmful attacks on immigrant communities by separating families, increasing deportations, and undermining our health care system and safety net. This has resulted in serious trauma that is affecting the physical and mental well-being of many Californians. It is critical that our state take action now to protect the health of all low-income Californians, regardless of where they were born. Undocumented adults have contributed to our economy and social fabric for decades. They are 10% of our workforce and are parents to 1 in 6 children in California.

The suspense file is a holding placing for bills with significant fiscal impacts (an annual cost of more than $150,000). Bills are generally held on the suspense file before each fiscal deadline so that each House can evaluate the total impacts to the state. Bills which are moved out of suspense then go to the floor while bills held in suspense die.

Here is an action from NEED TO IMPEACH

The Attorney General knowingly lied to Congress and the American people about the Mueller report — and we’ve got to do something about it.

Barr is a longtime member of the Virginia State Bar, and intentionally making a false statement of fact or law is a violation of Rule 4.1 and grounds for disbarment.  Wednesday morning, Attorney General Barr lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee about the reason Special Counsel Robert Mueller did not indict the President. This raises serious questions as to if he committed perjury.  Barr also lied to the Senate last month about not knowing if Mueller supported his conclusion and lied directly to the American people when he proclaimed that Trump cooperated fully with the Mueller investigation.

The State Bar of Virginia needs to disbar the Attorney General.  You will find a form that is already partially filled in by clicking on this: Filing a complaint with the Virginia State Bar is easy, and we have all the information you need: Help hold Barr accountable by filing a complaint. Be sure to sign and date the form before mailing.

Also, there are “additional questions” on page 2.  Here is how to answer them:

  1. No
  2. No
  3. Other—I am an American citizen to whom Barr lied and misled.
  4. I am an American citizen, and William Barr lied to the American people
  5. No
  6. Yes

Follow the instructions for sending the Complaint Form to the Virginia State Bar.

From DAILY ACTION

Call our representative, Jared Huffman (202-225-5161) and urge him to proceed with impeachment of Barr because of his lying and misrepresentation of the Mueller report.

INDIVISIBLE PLEDGE

Indivisible National would like us all to pledge to work together to elect the eventual 2020 Democratic candidate. Here’s the pledge:

  • Make the primary constructive. We’ll make the primary election about our hopes for the future, and a robust debate of values, vision and the contest of ideas. We’ll remain grounded in our shared values, even if we support different candidates.
  • Rally behind the winner. We’ll support the ultimate Democratic nominee, whoever it is — period. No Monday morning quarterbacking. No third-party threats.
  • Do the work to beat Trump. We’re the grassroots army that’s going to power the nominee to victory, and we’ll show up to make calls, knock doors, and do whatever it takes.

Please take a moment to make the pledge by following this link: https://pledge.indivisible.org/?akid=48245.1083518.w8VuI7&rd=1&source=email_201https://pledge.indivisible.org/?akid=48245.1083518.w8VuI7&rd=1&source=email_20190425_link1&t=5&utm_medium=link1&utm_source=email
